Suspect caught red-handed by security, neighbour

The burglar bars were sawn off and bent away.

The quick response from a dedicated Boz Security reaction officer and an alert neighbour prevented a suspected burglar from ransacking a home in Culemborg Park on Tuesday morning 19 April.

The Boz Security control centre allegedly received a call from a resident stating his neighbour’s house was being broken into and the burglar was still in the house.

The member on duty immediately dispatched a reaction vehicle to the premises. Upon arrival, reaction officer Kiewiet Pretorius noticed a hole in the perimeter wall under the palisade spikes. He then entered the premises through the hole in the wall.

Pretorius also noticed the kitchen window was broken and burglar bars were sawn off and bent away.

When he approached the broken window, he spotted movement in the house and instructed the burglar to lay down on the floor, and called for backup. Moments later reaction officer Richard van der Walt joined Pretorius. They entered through the kitchen window and Pretorius arrested the suspect.

Van der Walt checked the house to ensure there were no other suspects. On inspection it was found that the television set was wrapped in a duvet and other electronic equipment was also placed in such a way that it could be removed quickly.

Police arrived on the scene and the suspect was handed over to them. Nothing was removed from the house.
