Bekkersdal police’s soft spot for children

Spokesperson: It’s so unnecessary for pupils to get a criminal record.

The Bekkersdal Police recently visited a school in the area to inform pupils about bullying.

Sargeant Clara Matshediso, Bekkersdal’s crime prevention officer as well as Lefakane visited Seatile Primary School and addressed more than 200 pupils.

During their visit, Matshediso demonstrated self-defense methods that pupils can use to defend themselves against bullies. An example of a defense method is looking a bully in the eye, push them away and if the bully grabs you, say no and walk away. Pupils were, however, requested to rather report incidents of bullying to their teachers for them to address the situation.

Bekkersdal Police which is now part of the West Rand Cluster Police believes in prevention rather than arresting especially when it comes to schools and youth.

During a previous crime prevention school engagement visit, Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said,

It’s so unnecessary for pupils to get a criminal record so we want to prevent that at all costs and start at the root of the problem to stop it from even happening.”

Earlier this year, the Bekkersdal Police visited Kgothalang Secondary School for their adopt a school project as well as their Safer School Desk project.

It is clear that the police station values the youth and have plans for them not to be engulfed in criminal activity in the future.
