Drugs and weapons seized by Toekies crime fighters

Operation Vastrap's first go yields an unlicensed firearm and drugs.

The Toekomsrus Community Policing Forum (CPF) together with the police are taking back the streets of Toekomsrus.

According to André Roberts, chairperson of the CPF sector 2, they initiated operation Vastrap on Tuesday, 29 March to combat crime in the area. Roberts said they took two suspects into custody while the other two got away.

“An 9mm unlicensed firearm with six rounds of bullets was found as well as two knives and four scissors used to cut dagga.

Two bags of dagga, one dagga zol and a sharp flat screwdriver was found,” he said.

Although the CPF took two suspects into custody, one was arrested by police.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “I can confirm that a man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Roberts believes some of these tools are what suspects use to rob people in the area.

“The CPF started last night (29 March) with Operation Vastrap and this will continue until Toekomsrus is safer,” he assured.

This operation comes shortly after the Safety Imbizo held in Toekomsrus where the police and community declared war on drugs.

Randfontein Police Station Commander, Mashole Jacob Manamela did well to fire up the community to get them to work with the police and be the eyes and ears of the station in order to take Toekomsrus back from crime and drug abuse.
