‘He raped me without protection’

The suspect will soon appear in the Westonaria Magistrates' Court for rape and assault GBH.

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man they said raped and assaulted a woman in Bekkersdal.

The suspect was arrested by warrant officer Phiri from the Bekkersdal Crime Office after the victim identified him.

“The victim alleges that on Sunday, 7 February she was enjoying herself at a local tavern when the suspect requested her to accompany him to his place to collect money. The victim further alleged the suspect then attacked her upon arrival with an iron bar before throwing her on the bed.

He then undressed her and penetrated her without a condom,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

A case of rape was registered at the Bekkersdal police station on Monday, 15 February when the suspect was arrested.

He will appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on charges of rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
