Alleged unhygienic conditions at nursery school

Mother furious that nursery school allegedly used any towel on her son, causing a rash.

A concerned mother had to rush her 3-year-old son to hospital after one towel allegedly was used among several toddlers.

Rethabile Radebe explains that her son started attending this specific nursery school on 5 January 2016. They were told to buy toiletries including a towel for their son.

Radebe and her husband’s problems started a week after he started nursery school.

One day, their son came home with dirty trousers where Radebe immediately confronted the school’s owner. Radebe said she packed a clean pair of trousers in his bag and can’t understand why they would send him home like that.

The owner of the nursery school allegedly said she confronted the teacher about this, but the teacher simply replied,

What should I have done?”

The owner then allegedly apologised to her and Radebe accepted. Two weeks after this, when the boy’s father picked him up from school, he saw his child’s face being wiped with a towel that did not belong to him as they bought him a Spider-Man towel.

This same towel allegedly was being used on all the children.

The Radebe’s son then developed a rash over his face and body, where they were referred to a hospital in Krugerdorp.

He received medication for it, but it took some time to heal. Radebe then decided to buy her son another towel.

When she asked where the Spider-Man towel was, they could not find it. Only after a few days, the teacher contacted Radebe to tell her the towel was found.

She received it back, but it still had the tag on.

Radebe is furious that the nursery school allegedly used any towel on her son, causing a rash.

The teacher’s response was that they used wipes on her son, where she responded by saying,

We never agreed on using wipes, how do you know he is not allergic to wipes? “

The Radebe’s took their son out of the nursery school and Rethabile went to the Department of Social Development to lay a complaint.

She says the school is unhygienic and that the circumstances there are not favourable for toddlers.

The owner of the nursery school could not be reached for comment.
