Police encourage community involvement

'You are our eyes and ears on the ground.'

Brigadier Mashole Manamela, Randfontein Police Station commander accompanied by Zaheer Gangat, Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson, as well as other senior officers visited Mohlakeng to encourage community involvement.

Brigadier Manamela introduced the sector members in the Mohlakeng area and undertook to fight crime in the area.

Members of the community were encouraged to become involved in activities such as the community patrollers and the CPF.

You are our eyes and ears on the ground. Take charge and take back your community,” was the message from all the role players.

Community involvement already made an impact on crime in the area but the impact can be so much more with good partnerships.

Brigadier Manamela also appealed to the community not to take the law into their own hands and rather hand over offenders to the police for the law to take its course. Safety tips and other vital information were distributed to the attendees.

Randfontein Management will embark on similar informal community engagements in all the policing areas in Randfontein on a regular basis.

Let us work together as a team to ensure a crime-free society in Randfontein,” said Brigadier Manamela.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) calls on the help of the community members to assist them with information.

Anyone with information can contact the Crime Stop number – 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line – 32211 to report crime anonymously.
