Half-naked elderly woman found dead

Police: She sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the brutal slaying of an elderly woman.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed the half-naked body of a 77-year-old woman was found in her yard. The incident occurred at around 4.45pm at Dlamini Street in Bekkersdal on 29 January.

“It is alleged on the said date, a neighbour became worried he did not see the old woman for two days and that it was unusual for her not to be seen. He decided to call another neighbour to go and investigate. They both went inside the yard only to make a gruesome discovery.

The old woman was lying on her back half naked just outside her house and she was not moving. The neighbour immediately contacted the family of the old woman as well as police. The police then revealed she had sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest.

“A case of murder was then opened.”

It was then thanks to a sting operation held by local detectives that two suspects, aged 19 and 20 were arrested. Both have been charged for the elderly woman’s murder and already appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court where they were denied bail.

The case has been postponed to next Tuesday, 16 February.
