Foetus found in trash bag

Police to investigate concealment of birth.

Investigations are ongoing after a foetus was found in a trash bag at the Randfontein dumpsite.

“It is alleged the complainant was rummaging on the dumpsite on Saturday over the weekend when she discovered the foetus in a tightly bound refuse bag. The complainant immediately informed the police of the discovery.

The foetus was removed to the government mortuary,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The police would appreciate any information regarding this inhuman act. The investigating officer, Sergeant Nomsa Thebe can be contacted on 011 2788100 with any information that might assist in the investigation. Information will be treated with the necessary confidentiality.

The South African Police Service calls on the help of the community members to assist them with information. Anyone with information can contact the Crime Stop number – 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line – 32211 to report crime anonymously.
