WARNING: Counterfeit money in circulation

Woman in her late 20 arrested for paying with counterfeit money.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested at a family restaurant in the Randfontein CBD after she paid with counterfeit money, Randfontein Police said.

The incident took place at around 1.10pm on Saturday, 6 January.

“It is alleged by the complainant she was serving the suspect and upon payment she was paid with a counterfeit one hundred note. She immediately alerted the police and the suspect was arrested while still on the premises.

“The suspect’s first appearance at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court was on 18 January,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The Randfontein Police warns the business community in the Randfontein area to be extra vigilant when receiving cash. Counterfeit money results in huge losses for companies. Should a person present counterfeit money as payment, the police should be contacted immediately.
