Two arrested for ‘neatly dressed’ man’s murder

Police solve murder case in less than a week

The Randfontein Police together with other law enforcement officers from Kagiso and Trio Task Team have arrested two murder suspects after an intense investigation.

“On Saturday, 2 January the body of a 30-year-old man was found in the open veld near Phumlani Hostel in Randfontein,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The body found is the same ‘well-dressed’ body the Herald reported on early this month. It was alleged the man was found by passersby in the veld. The man was wearing a blue shirt and jeans and had bullet wounds to his body.

The police could not establish the identity of the man and requested assistance from the public in identifying the body.

“An intensive investigation followed and detectives from Kagiso Police recovered a vehicle which had a blood stained interior. They interrogated witnesses and the Randfontein Police along with a Trio Task Team were called to assist since it indicated the victim in Randfontein was linked to the vehicle in Kagiso,” said Ernst.

All officers involved followed up all possible leads and worked long hours to secure an arrest.

The breakthrough came when they arrested the first suspect who is 33-years-old on 3 January. The second suspect, 25, was arrested on 5 January,” said Ernst.

Police also managed to trace and confiscate the firearm which was used in committing the offence.

“Forensic evidence collected in the vehicle will be processed to determine links. The suspects appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 6 January facing a murder charge,” Ernst said.
