Woman ambushed, shot at before bank deposit

Two unknown suspects ambushed the woman, one with a pistol and the other a rifle.

A 36-year-old businesswoman was ambushed and shot at before depositing money at the bank in Homelake.

The incident occurred after noon one Monday in December.

“It is alleged the victim was on her way to a bank to deposit money when she was ambushed by a white Toyota 4×4 bakkie, while driving along Village Street, Randfontein. The vehicle blocked her path and two unknown suspects emerged from the bakkie, both wielding firearms. One was carrying a pistol and the other a rifle,” Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson of the Randfontein police said.

The suspects instructed the woman to hand over the money but she quickly managed to reverse her car. When this happened, the suspects started shooting at her.

The woman allegedly drove towards her shop in Homelake and entered her officer but the suspects followed her and demanded the money which she eventually handed over.

The suspects then drove off. It is further alleged that more shots were fired outside the shop before the suspects left,” Ernst said.

The woman did not sustain any serious injuries and no bystanders were injured as a result of the shooting.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker will appreciate any information that might assist him in the investigation. He can be reached on 011 278 8100.
