Record-breaking heatwave from Thursday
Temperatures to reach highs of between 40 and 43 degrees by Thursday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is advising the public of a heatwave hitting the country.
It’s said temperatures will reach highs of between 40 and 43 degrees by Thursday, 7 January and Friday, 8 January.
This uncommon heatwave is expected to break some records but it is expected to slightly ease by Saturday, 9 January as temperatures will be dropping by two degrees countrywide.
Isolated thunderstorms are also expected to occur with a temperature dropping effect at some places. SAWS therefore advises members of the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from these adverse weather conditions.
These measures include:
• Drink more water, regardless of your activity level;
• Avoid being in the sun for too long, stay under the shade;
• Protect yourself by wearing a hat, using an umbrella and sunscreen.
SAWS will keep monitoring the conditions and will update the public accordingly.
