Murderer jailed 17 years for slitting man’s throat

Justice for deceased whose throat was slit for R30.

A man who slit another man’s throat during a fight in Westonaria has been jailed for 17 years.

Mpho Hoaeane, 46, was convicted for murder and sentenced to 17 years imprisonment after it took detective warrant officer, Ali Motlhale, a year of intense investigation in the brutal killing of a 36-year-old man.

“It was on Sunday, 21 December 2014 when Constable Simphiwe Dube and Constable Nonhlanhla Shabangu arrested Hoaeane for murder.

“This came after the two police officers were alerted by a security officer of the body of an adult man lying in Cresswell Street. The two police officers quickly rushed to the alleged crime scene accompanied by the security officer.

On arrival at the scene they found a seriously injured body of an adult man lying in the street. The police then initiated an investigation and arrested the suspect on the scene after he was pointed out by the security officer.

“It is further alleged an argument between the accused and the suspect started after Hoaeane demanded that the deceased pay him the R30 that he owed. The deceased allegedly did pay the R30 back but the argument continued,”said Captain Sipiwe Ndlovu, spokesperson for the Westonaria Police.

The argument eventually ended up in fight, where the deceased’s throat was slit, his wrist amputated and he sustained an open wound on his forehead.

Detective Warrant officer Motlhale can now rest in knowing that Hoaeane will pay for his brutal crime by spending 17 years behind bars.
