Cyclist killed after being hit by SUV

Warning: Graphic images. Not for sensitive viewers.

A cyclist was knocked down and killed at the Lazaar-Greenhills Avenue intersection on Tuesday afternoon.

When the Herald arrived on scene, scores of residents and CPF members surrounded the scene. On Lazaar Road a man lay in the street covered with a silver bag.

A few metres from him a red bike was laying on its side with the wheel bent and a grey Toyota Fortuner SUV stood in the left lane behind the cyclist.

The cause of the incident is unclear to the Herald, however, many unconfirmed reports on scene speculated the Fortuner skipped the robot and then collided with the cyclist.

The matter will be under investigation,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.
