Taxi-truck horror crash: Victims to be identified

WARNING: May contain some disturbing images.

Police are calling on the families of those who passed away in Sunday’s taxi-truck horror crash to identify the bodies before they can proceed with investigations.

The crash took place in Westonaria on the R28 where 19 people lost their lives and four are understood to have survived including a young child.

It has been said the taxi lost control and collided with the truck before bursting into flames. New reports suggest the taxi lost control due to a burst tyre.

The occupants of the taxi were speculated to be churchgoers either returning from or going to church because of their attire.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said,

The investigation will be taken to the Director of Public Prosecution who must decide whether somebody must be charged or an inquest must be held in terms of those people that died.”
