Non-existing stop sign carnage continues

An alarming number of accidents have occurred as a result of non-existing stop signs.

Non-existing stop signs are yet again to blame after an accident occurred at the corner of Maroela and Suikerbos Streets in Robinson on Sunday. In this incident, a car landed on its roof.

The only sign of a stop sign was a pole sticking out from the ground and a S remaining from the fainted STOP sign painted on the road. Once again, anyone driving in the area, not knowing the area, will find it hard to recognise this as a stop street.

An alarming number of these accidents recently occurred and residents are up in arms about it.

Resident Andre Appelgryn said they have tried to bring this under the municipality’s attention for months now.

On Monday 19 October another accident involving a T-bone collision occurred at the corner of Lark Crescent and Kanfer Streets.

A woman driving a BMW allegedly skipped a stop street as there was absolutely no indication this was a stop street. She then collided with another vehicle injuring the male driver.

In this instance, the municipality was quick to act. A stop sign was put up and a few days later they repainted the stop sign on the road.

The question arises time and again: Why wait for tragedy to strike before making work of all the fainted or non-existing stop signs in Randfontein and surrounding areas?

The only proof that this is in fact, a stop street, and only a S remaining painted in the road.
