Youngster, 22, critical after bike accident

A mother was left devastated after hearing of her son's collision.

A mother was left in tears after hearing her 22-year-old son was in a horror motorbike accident on Wednesday morning.

The collision took place on the corner of the R559 and 5th Road in Middelvlei. It is unclear how the collision took place. Traffic police officers said they had to rely mostly on eyewitness accounts.

When the Herald arrived on scene, the bike was laying on the side of the road and a car in front of it with the bumper in pieces. The CPF Sector 4 and 5 were on scene in all their numbers assisting where they could.

Genie Blignaut, Intermediate Life Support (ILS) at Netcare 911 treated the patient, Conrad Jonker. When she was done, her pants were covered in blood.

Netcare 911 later sent a helicopter to airlift the young man to hospital.

Chris Botha, spokesperson for Netcare 911 confirmed, “He was critically injured. They had to put him on a ventilator.”

There are no reports of injuries of the driver of the car which the bike collided with. It is believed the woman sustained minor injuries.

On the sidelines, Conrad’s mother Diena Kroukamp was being consoled by her friend Annetjie Erks. She was in tears and had no idea what happened to her son. She arrived just after the speedy transporting to hospital.
