Bright future for RHS jukskei teams

'Sport unites people, it is the one place where everyone can come together to have fun.'

Although Randfontein High School (RHS) is a relatively new kid on the proverbial jukskei block, six of their pupils will participate at the National Competition in Kroonstad in December.

According to Amelia Herbst-Smit, jukskei organiser and coach at RHS, the sport was introduced at the school four years ago.

Our pupils loved it and a large number joined the initial teams. Last year we were very excited when we already did well in the championship league and saw four pupils participating at the National Championships in Kroonstad.

“This year saw a further growth in numbers and we obtained four second places and a third place in the annual schools league in August. We are also very proud of the six RHS pupils who will participate at the national competition in Kroonstad next month.”

The they are Mandla Mpembe, Tumelo Molemane, Mulisa Raedani, Tumiso Mathebula, Thandeka Deleki and Nokwazi Dlamini.

The school is also very proud to announce that Amelia is the newly appointed chairperson of West Rand Schools Jukskei for the 2015/2016 season.

“I am very proud and excited to be the chairperson and will strive to make 2015/2016 a good year for the sport. I am passionate about jukskei and would like to see the interest in it grow among all schools, irrespective of the language or cultural background of the school.

Sport unites people, it is the one place where everyone can come together to have fun,” Amelia said.
