Club’s first ever season a success

Gone are the days when netball was just a school sport.

The Westonaria Netball Association recently held their first ever league of which six teams participated from various towns.

The teams who participated were City Harvest, Young Movers, South Deep, Driefontein, Kloof 1 and the Sandton Stars. Although only six teams participated, 10 teams in total are affiliates.

The Westonaria Netball Association began on 12 September 2015 and was registered under Gauteng West Netball and Development.

Results:

• 1st place – Young Movers

• 2nd place – South Deep

• 3rd place – Driefontein

This was not really about the money but rather to build the teams and clubs to be able to formalise and grow netball. Gone are the days when netball was just a school sport,” said Jane Sekokodi, chairperson of the club.

She would like to thank all the individuals and businesses who helped them reach the heights they have thus far.

“We would like to thank out generous donors and supporters to name a few; G and B Hope Projects, the Westonaria mayor’s office, the sports office of the municipality, Boitumelo Nku from sports development, Gauteng West Netball and Toyota Westonaria.

It does not matter how small or big, it made a difference. The Westonaria sports council also played a big role in terms of advice.”
