Guards attacked and robbed of shotgun

Police: They are armed and extremely dangerous.

Bekkersdal Police desperately need assistance from the public in tracing three men who allegedly stabbed a security officer and robbed him of his firearm.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Linkie Lefakane confirmed the incident that occurred at the Zuurbekom railway station at approximately 6pm on Tuesday 6 October.

“It is alleged the victim was on duty with his crew. One of the guards, a woman, then felt something hitting her hard on her shoulder and someone demanding her to hand over her firearm.

She told this person she did not carry one. One of the suspects then stabbed a male security officer and took his shotgun. They were armed with a revolver.”

Lefakane added the men are armed and extremely dangerous.

“The police issue a stern warning to the community around Bekkersdal, Simunye and Zuurbekom. We believe they will use the firearm to rob people in their homes, business places and/or in the streets. We therefore urge the community to be alert and be safe.”

Anyone who comes across a person with a shotgun must not approach them. Contact the nearest police station or Sergeant Shiviti on 011 755 0000 or 071 675 7169.
