Lenmed takes women’s health seriously

R'fontein women treated to snacks and talks by women for women.

Lenmed (Randfontein Private Hospital) recently had a women’s health workshop and taught women who attended how to de-stress, eat well and carry on being pillars of strength in the community.

Three Caxton Johannesburg West branch women attended the event to find out for themselves and learn how to keep on top of things.

The first topic discussed was emotional intelligence. The talk was given by June Manala – an educational psychologist. One of the most striking topics she touched on was stress.

June told all the women about the physical dangers of toxic stress but she also explained that stress is essential in order for things to get done.

Not all stress is bad. I had a great deal of stress compiling this PowerPoint but it was because of stress that it got done. If we didn’t have stress, we’d be dead,” she said.

June gave women in the audience ways in which they can avoid toxic stress, “You absolutely need time of relaxation. When last have you spent some time alone? It is important that we have this time so that we can recharge and get away from all the bad stresses that affect as emotionally and physically.”

She encouraged women to take some time out, to spend some time with loved ones and take a break from the fast paced life that everyone finds themselves in.

The other speakers included among others, a gynaecologist, and ophthalmologist, a dietitian to give women pointers on their general well being.
