Partying in W’aria getting out of hand

Residents lash out at Westonaria Police for doing nothing.

At least three angry residents have come forward and lashed out at police for not taking their complaints to heart.

An example of police doing absolutely nothing according to a resident who wishes to remain anonymous is the out-of-the-ordinary noise and partying around the neighbourhood that have become a big nuisance.

“I think this has gone on long enough. Why do we as residents have to put up with this? From Fridays through to Sundays it is just loud noise, loud music, excessive drinking, yelling and indecent behaviour such as urinating against our wall. They make such a racket that you can’t even hear your TV.

A lot of open spaces are not being used. Why don’t these people take their parties to the townships or to their very own homes? Other residents are complaining as well. It really is becoming a problem in Westonaria. It looks like citizens will have to take matters into their own hands because the police are useless.

“The station commander should fire those who fail to do their jobs. I know that in 1994, when you applied to be a police officer, you had to be a certain height and weight, but these days anyone can become a police officer. The Westonaria Police must catch a wake-up; residents are getting fed up with people doing whatever they like, just because bribing a police officer has become so easy. I think if they can braai and drink and party wherever they wish without any consequences, I can take my braai, a lot of friends and go and braai on the Westonaria Police’s stoep.

I think that would be fair. Maybe after someone gets raped, assaulted or injured they will wake up.”

“It’s going to far. Davies Street is the worst. There is an open space between my house and the church next to me. People gather there and party until the early hours of the next morning and even that space is not sufficient to them. It is an ongoing story, and nothing is being done about it,” another resident added.

“I really do not know what type of work Westonaria Police do. Fridays and Saturdays you see many police vans parked at a local entertainment venue. Even though there are shebeens and noise, they do not arrest anyone, they just carry on socialising. When you need the police in an emergency, they always are busy,” was another comment the Herald heard.

The complaints have been forwarded for comment to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson.
