Music students shine at festival

'Because of these achievements they are now members of Raca's Diamond Club.'

Students of FJL Wells Music School from Randfontein exceeded expectations during this year’s National Eisteddfod, the Raca Art Festival in Randfontein and the Monument Art Festival held in Krugersdorp.

The music school had 287 entries and walked away with an impressive 63 double gold, 125 platinum and 99 diamond certificates, not to mention the 52 students who won different categories.

Reinhardt le Roux won the overall vocal category for the third year in a row while Miguel Leitao was named the overall instrumental winner for the second year in a row. Reinhardt received 21 diamond certificates and Miguel was hot on his heels with 19.

Because of these achievements they now are members of Raca’s Diamond Club. Both these students receive music lessons from Annalien du Plessis and have been with FJL Wells from the very start. Miguel was a member of Simfonia Juventi this year – a prestigious youth orchestra for which only the best students are chosen to perform in a series of concerts.

Reinhardt also performed at a concert at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate in Honeydew on Saturday 26 September. One of the Raca adjudicators, George Meiring who is a professional singer invited him to sing with him at this event – a great honour for the music school.
