Muti robbers on the prowl

Another victim was robbed of his money and spent time in hospital, after he was given a substance to drink.

A resident of Randfontein told the Herald about an incident about two weeks ago, when some form of muti was rubbed onto her arm, after which she was interrogated by criminals and then left feeling disorientated and confused.

Elizabeth Ebersohn, a 60-year-old woman, visited the Randfontein Clinic in Main Reef Road. On her way back, a man came up beside her and rubbed a black oily substance on her arm. She did not make much of it, but then a second man came up to her.

He pointed at the oily substance and said the same was done to him and she must accompany him to police waiting in a car nearby.

Feeling confused she walked with the man and they got into a white BMW. The two so-called policemen and the man asked her if she had money, where her bank card was, and how much money she had in her account. She realised the man had lied to her and that they were criminals.

She explained she felt as if she was in a daze, and even though she really did not have money, she believed that if she did, she would have told them.

She explained that something made her tell the truth, and that she was unable to lie to the criminals, even to protect herself and her belongings. After they had realised Ebersohn really did not have money, they told her to get out of the car.

She said she heard the same had happened to another resident. He also experienced the same symptoms after a oily substance had been rubbed on him. His money was stolen after he had told them his pin number, and he was dropped off in a veldt where he was forced to drink a white substance. After that he hardly could remember anything.

He spent three days in hospital following the incident.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson is yet to comment on these alleged muti robberies.
