Paramedic rescues collapsed cop

'Efficiency come in small packages' – Police

Constitutionally police exist to look after the country’s citizens but who is there to look after the police when they are in need? Netcare 911 took up the task and for it they got a commendation from Randfontein Police for outstanding service.

Netcare 911 was recently in the news for rescuing a dog and transporting it to a animal clinic as they would a human patient but this is not where thier heroism ended as they assisted a police officer who had collapsed at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.

“The saying ‘dynamite comes in small packages’ is true according to members from the Randfontein Police posted at the Magistrates’ Court,” Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police said.

The Randfontein Police have immense respect for Jeany Blignaut, a Intermediate Life Support (ILS) practitioner from Netcare 911. According to Warrant Officer Len Cilliers, the police court orderlies were recently reporting for duty at the Magistrates’ Court when one of the members collapsed.

Cilliers immediately called Netcare 911 and within 10 minutes Jeany Blignaut stopped at the court. “She was unassisted and ran into the building carrying her medical bag and a large oxygen container. It needs to be noted that Jeany is not a tall lady, she barely reaches 1.52 metres and according to Len, she effortlessly carried her heavy equipment into the building,” Ernst said.

“She quickly and efficiently assisted the distressed member and stabilised him. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. Len is adamant that this dynamic lady was the reason for the member’s quick recovery and release from the hospital the following day.”

“The Randfontein Police management appreciates the sterling task that this lady did. Her efforts are noticed and appreciated. Warrant Officer Cilliers wishes to express his team’s gratitude towards Jeany Blignaut who came rushing to their colleagues rescue.”
