Pedestrian stabbed and robbed

'They stabbed him once in the head and in the buttocks' — W'aria police.

At least two suspects were arrested after a pedestrian was robbed and stabbed in the head.

According to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson, the incident occurred at 5pm on Sunday 23 August.

“It was alleged the victim was walking along Codrington Street when he was approached by three unknown men. One of them blocked the victim’s way by standing in front of him and the other two behind him. They demanded his cellphone and money, but he told them he did not have.They then threatened to beat him.

In return he victim threatened the suspect standing in front of him that he would hit him with the empty bottle he was holding in his hand.

The suspect got a fright, which gave the victim the opportunity to run away. But the suspects kept on pursuing the victim and finally caught up with him in President Street. One suspect, armed with a knife, pushed the victim to the ground and searched him.

They took his cellphone, money and shoes, but before walking away they stabbed him in the head and the buttocks.”

The victim was able to report the incident to the Westonaria Police.

The police responded immediately and took the victim to the field into which the suspects had disappeared. They found two men, whom the victim was able to identify as those he believed robbed him. They were arrested, but the third suspect is still on the run. They found two stolen cellphones, shoes and a knife in the suspects’ possession.

The arrested suspects are aged 19 and 30 and could face charges of robbery, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, being in possession of a dangerous weapon and stolen property.

Both suspects appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on 25 August.
