Thieves steal battery out of car

'People where here in my yard trying to steal my car but stole the battery instead' – Resident.

A Simunye resident is up in arms after thieves came to target his car’s battery in the early hours of Monday morning.

Agrippa Vusumzi Tukani, the resident who was a victim of the crime said, “I had a problem at midnight – people where here in my yard trying to steal my car.”

He continues to say the thieves stole the battery out of his car when they could not manage to steal the car.

He then called the Westonaria Police.

I said I need police at my residence and there is a red Golf parked at my gate. I said that I didn’t know them and the call centre transferred me to the Westonaria Police station, I told the woman I need police and I live in Simunye and she told me to call Bekkersdal.”

Tukani was fortunately not injured during the incident however, his battery was stolen out of his car.

He was concerned about police not tending to his call as he believed his area falls under the Westonaria Police.

When the Herald contacted Westonaria Police about the matter, Sergeant Audrey Sefara, former spokesperson for the Westonaria Police explained they do not cover Simunye, instead the area falls under Bekkersdal Police.

Sgt Safara also provided the Herald with the contact details of the Simunye sector police car: 071 675 7176.
