Business robberies a concern

'This state of affairs will no longer be tolerated' – Police.

The Randfontein Police are concerned about the frequency of business burglaries and robberies being reported in the area.

“The tendency currently is that shops in all the areas are burgled during weekends, normally during the early hours of the morning. These burglaries happen even if the business is equipped with alarm systems and other safety features,” Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police said.

In addition to the burglaries, the Randfontein business sector has been recording losses as a result of shoplifting.

This state of affairs will no longer be tolerated. The Randfontein Police therefore requests the assistance of business owners in the greater Randfontein to come together in fighting these crimes,” Ernst said.

The Randfontein Police would like to establish a business forum that will address common factors which influence negatively on businesses in the area.

“Without the inputs from our local business community, such a forum will have no influence on the crimes which affects them,” Ernst explained.

The first business forum meeting will be hosted at the Randfontein Police VISPOL boardroom on Thursday (20 August) at 3pm.

An appeal is made to all businesses to form part of this initiative to address which concerns their livelihood.”
