Venterspos fire survivors going strong

Surviving wife and children thank community for assisting them in their time of need.

The Venterspos family who recently suffered the ordeal of losing three family members when a fire raged through their home are still going strong.

In the fire on Saturday 18 July Cecelia Taylor who used to live in that home lost her husband, grandfather and aunt. Fortunately her three children were not in their home at the time of the incident.

Something just told me not to send them home that night. I told them to ask my sister if they could spend the night at her place,” she said.

She not only lost loved ones in the fire, but also all her and her children’s belongings. When the Herald broke the story, Taylor called for the community to assist her. The response was substantial.

Bags of clothing, blankets, shoes and money were dropped off at the Herald office in Greenhills to assist the family to get back onto their feet.

Taylor said thanks the community for all the assistance she has received as it has been a great help to the entire family.

She since has managed to file for another identification document, however, she is having difficulty with filing for her Sassa card.

During the first interview Taylor had told the Herald the fire department believed the fire was due to an electrical short circuit in the flat, subsequently the main house on the property was checked for any electrical faults.
