What’s that foam in the water?

One cow reportedly dies as a result of drinking water from both the Greenhills stream and foamy stream.

Randfontein’s water has seemingly been under attack in recent weeks as the case in previous years.

The last stream visited by the Herald was the infamous Greenhills stream that changed colour, killed fish and had sewage leaking into it.

Another stream has been identified that had an odd and smelly appearance.

The stream is located just across the road from the sewage farm in Elandsvlei. Over the stream, there is a bridge that separates one side from the other.

The upper side of the stream smells of sewage and has layers of slime on the banks with no visible signs of fish in the water.

On the bottom side, foam can be seen coming through a pipe in large amounts. Approximately an hour after the Herald initially visited the site, the foam had increased more than the initial visit. The origin of the foam is unknown. The bottom site also smells of sewage.

Cows regularly pass the stream and drink the water as well as graze near the banks.

Moses Dunga, a shepherd that was passing by on the day confirmed one cow died as a result of drinking water from both the Greenhills stream and foamy stream. Another cow that ingested the water become ill but later recovered.

It is unknown which water if at all resulted in the cow’s death as well as the other cow’s illness.
