R’fontein Police shows some love

Women in blue brings joy to children suffering from Cerebral Palsy.

The Randfontein Police spent their 67 minutes on Mandela Day with children suffering from Cerebral Palsy at the Korekile Home.

The Women’s Network of Randfontein SAPS visited the home with the aim to spend some time with the residents and bring a bit of joy to them.

The Korekile Home is based in Simunye. A reason why the Women’s Network of Randfontein SAPS chose the specific facility is because one of their employees, Elizabeth Nickson’s 25-year-old daughter, Millicent Mokotsi is a resident battling with the disease.

According to Elizabeth,

Korekile home was the brainchild of two sisters, Machaba Modiemoeng and Mapule Mache who are both social workers. They realised the Simunye area does not have a facility where people with cerebral palsy can be cared for. On 3 March 1995 the facility opened its doors with 15 children.

The facility expanded throughout the past 20 years and it currently houses 120 residents, between the ages of 5 and 33 years.”

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police said, “This labour of love, by the founders and parents, are applauded by the Women’s Network of Randfontein SAPS.

The facility is a Non Government Organisation (NGO) and more than 80 per cent of the residents are wearing nappies, which is an enormous expense. The SAPS Women’s Network plans a follow-up visit, in which essential needs such as nappies will be handed over.”
