Yes to Metro – W’aria community

'Those associated with the DA, representing a minority, opposed it' – W'aria municipality.

As in Randfontein, there is a large support for the planned West Rand metro in Westonaria.

Westonaria residents had a chance to voice their opinions when the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) visited all the local municipalities in the West Rand that could be amalgamated into a metropolitan municipality.

The public meeting took place on Wednesday (22 July) at the Westonaria Local Municipality Banquet Hall.

According to Kgabane Madiehe, spokesperson for the Westonaria Executive Mayor,

Most speakers of the approximately 500 people who attended gave the thumbs up to the proposal of the merger for all municipalities in the West Rand.”

“All speakers who identified themselves as being aligned with the ANC and alliance partners were in favour of the merger while those associated with the Democratic Alliance, representing a minority, opposed it,” he said.
