VIDEO: Breaking the winter chills

'Get out under the covers, and you will reap the benefits in summer!"

Who says one must be covered with blankets and be lazy on the couch this winter.

Just ask Claire Calvert, 30, a group fitness instructor and Victor Stoffberg, 19, from the Fitstop Gym in Greenhills.

According to them, winter slumber is not an option. The message is clear: “Get out under the covers, and you will reap the benefits in summer!”

Calvert is also a competitor in Fitness Bikini contests and is part of the Kelfit lifestyle where the famous Kelly Stegen is her coach.

Calvert started serious exercising two years ago. She gives aerobic glasses at the gym and also does weight training in her personal capacity. Her diet includes five meals a day which consists of a mix between carbohydrates, protein, green vegetables and good fats.

She also consumes four litres of water each day. She says no to processed foods, sugar and refined carbohydrates. Calvert loves exercising and her passion for this is apparent in her determination and physique.

She says, “There is allot of benefits to a healthy lifestyle and exercising for instance: good health and wellness and endorphins that gets released to give you that feel good feeling.”

Victor Stoffberg, 19, said exercising is more than a hobby, it is a lifestyle. He gyms at Fitstop four times a week for more or less three hours a day.

He says this lifestyle has changed his life, he left partying and unhealthy living far behind him. His dream is to become Mr Olympia in Bodybuilding and it surely looks like he is well on his way.

Calvert showed the a 15 minute workout which anybody can do from home which included:

• Squat knee lifts

• Abdominal exercises

• Reversed lunges

• Push ups

• “Mountain climbing”

Kenneth Mokemane, 14, from FJL Wells School, exercises daily and comes to the gym five times a week. He promotes a natural way of exercising without stimulants and chemicals.

According to him, “Exercise calms your mind and this helps a lot during stressful school days.”

He also maintains a healthy way of eating; high protein foods, meat only twice a week and drinks a lot of water.
