Domestic worker escapes ‘brutal’ attack

'Her hands were tied with wire and legs with a scarf' — Police.

A domestic worker in Westonaria was taken by surprise while doing her washing as two suspects targeted her from behind, tied her up and gagged her.

According to Sergeant Audrey Sefara, spokesperson for the Westonaria police, “The domestic worker became the victim of a house robbery on Thursday last week at approximately 11.45am.”

Sefara explained further the domestic worker was busy hanging her laundry outside when she was grabbed from behind. Her mouth was covered with a hand and she was subsequently dragged back inside the house.

She was then thrown on the kitchen floor by two men and her hands were tied with the wiring of a hairdryer and her legs with a red scarf she was wearing on her head. The domestic worker was gagged with a child’s pants.

Sefara continued, “The suspects asked her where the safe was to which she replied she did not know — the suspects assaulted her as they thought she was lying.

“The suspects began ransacking the house and made their way passed her with a black HP laptop and an external hard drive. In addition to this, they also took jewelry from the house. They escaped by jumping the wall into the neighbors yard. The domestic worker managed to untie herself and went seeking help from the neighbor. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at R25 000.

“One of the suspects was wearing a long sleeved striped T-shirt with black pants. The other suspect was short and light in complexion and wore a long sleeved green T-shirt.”
