Police officer shot during hijacking

Police not impervious to crime.

It is evident that police officers are not impervious to crime as an incident took place in Randfontein where an officer was shot while suspects tried to hijack him at his home.

A Constable Nqobile Malinga from the Carletonville police was shot during a hijacking on Thursday (15 May) according to Lucky Matombe, spokesperson for the Tarlton police.

“Constable Nqobile Malinga was allegedly coming from a gym and was about to park his red Ford Bantam in the garage at his place of residence in Toekomsrus when suddenly two unknown males pounced on him and pointed him with a firearm, demanding his car keys,” Matombe explained.

“It is further alleged that Constable Nqobile Malinga tried to fight the two suspects and a shot was fired, injuring him on his right thigh.”

Matombe says that Malinga allegedly disarmed the suspects after which they fled the scene with the victim’s red Ford Bantam with the registration number: XMH 426 GP.

Matombe was taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention. The estimated value of the hijacking is R40 000.
