Life Robinson goes big on Nurses Day

‘Nurses are the heart of healthcare’ — CEO of Life Healthcare.

Life Robinson Private Hospital recently joined many others nationwide and around the world by celebrating International Nurses’ Day.

International Nurses’ Day on Tuesday 12 May gave Life Healthcare the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate over 9 000 nurses in the Group’s employ.

The theme chosen this year by the Group is Compassion In Nursing, which aligns to the Company’s core values of Performance Pride and Passion for People.

According to André Meyer, CEO of Life Healthcare, “Nurses are the heart of healthcare and the very core of the Life Healthcare Group. We offer world class medical facilities and equipment, and our doctors and specialists provide the medical expertise necessary to treat patients and perform complex procedures. However, it is our nurses who routinely dispense the comfort, compassion, and care that makes all the difference to our patients’ recovery.”

Life Healthcare paid tribute to 100 nurses who have been chosen by their peers for epitomising quality and compassion in their daily work.

“Nursing is a profession of compassion and caring, and also linked to a scientific background. It is a dedicated service to the sick during their time of need,” said Dr Sharon Vasuthevan, Group Nursing Executive at Life Healthcare.

“Compassion is central to nursing care and has become underutilised due to various developments in technology, administration and management. The one thing that patients should be able to rely on when they are in our care, is the compassionate connectedness that will bridge the clinical, operation, cultural and behavioural aspects of the patient experience. International Nurses’ Day serves to remind us as nurses to re-establish our support for each other in the clinical area,” said Vasuthevan.

“International Nurses’ Day gave me a very welcome opportunity to say thank you. We are proud of our Life Healthcare nurses for making a significant difference to people’s lives each and every day,” said Meyer.

To ensure a steady supply of well-trained nursing staff at a time when our country is experiencing shortages of this crucial skill set, Life Healthcare has invested heavily in the training of aspirant nurses through its nationally accredited Life College of Learning which was established in 1998.

The College trains both basic and post-basic nurses and has recruited over 100 nurses from India to alleviate the local shortage.

To say thank you to all their nurses Life Robinson Private Hospital treated them to a breakfast at The Hamilton Guest House.
