Baby Keegan sadly passes away

After months of illness, baby Keegan passes away.

Baby Keegan Conner who was helped by the Ben Moorgenrood group succumbed to his condition over the weekend.

The Herald can confirm baby Keegan died in hospital on Friday (15 May) at approximately 10.30pm after once again becoming very ill.

Baby Keegan was diagnosed with what is commonly known as a hole in his heart. He underwent his first heart operation when he was only six weeks old at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital. Doctors operated through his back after which his left lung collapsed. A second operation was then done through his chest.

The damage he sustained to his lung resulted in him needing to spend six months in intensive care on a ventilator. During that time, he got 13 different kinds of lung infections.

After tests, it was found that baby Keegan had DiGeorge-syndrome which is a condition where the body’s immune system completely breaks down. In addition to this, it was found that he has a disorder that hinders a normal baby’s development processes.

His mother, Jenny Boshoff tells how a doctor in his intensive care unit decided to take him off the ventilators resulting in permanent damage on his lungs.

It was later found that he had suffered a light stroke which affected the left side of his body. Furthermore, he was found to have a hole in his brain that leaks water into his skull.

Boshoff explained further “After all these things were found wrong with him, he had to permanently be on oxygen.”

She later had to resign in order to look after him and has been battling ever since. In addition to this, Boshoff has another child who started school this year.
