Family held at gunpoint in house robbery

'One of the suspects eventually arrested' — Police.

A Homelake family were the latest victims of a house robbery after three men, two of them armed, targeted their home on Tuesday.

The family, which also included minor children were held at gunpoint while other suspects ransacked the house local police said.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police explains “It is alleged at around 6.30pm the family was confronted by three unknown suspects.

“Two of the suspects were armed with firearms. The family, which also included minor children were held at gunpoint while other suspects ransacked the house. The suspects took numerous valuables from the house and also left with the family vehicle.

“The community and security personnel responded immediately and the vehicle was recovered and one suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. The 27-year-old suspect is in custody and will appear in the Magistrates court shortly on charges of house robbery.”

Ernst added “It was once again the quick response by the community and security officers that resulted in the arrest of a house robbery suspect.”

Acting Station Commander, Colonel Marius Smit expressed his satisfaction with the quick response by the Randfontein community and emphasized that the Randfontein residents must proactively take their town back.
