‘Drunk driver’ crashes into apartment complex

‘He was drunk and didn’t have a license’ — home owner

A mother of three living in Edradour Complex in Finsbury was shocked to find that a motorist drove though the complex gate, though a wall and into the main bedroom of her home last week.

According to Bongy Dlamini, resident of the home that was crashed into, “I was in the house at the time with my three children. It was awful. Luckily none of us were hurt when he crashed into the bedroom. We have lived here for six years. I can’t believe this happened.”

Dlamini claims that when it happened, she went to the driver and asked him for his license for insurance purposes but he allegedly refused. One of the residents here works for the traffic police and she also asked him but he refused again.

“After a while he admitted that he did not have a license,” Dlamini said.

“He was drunk. The police tested him and confirmed that he was drunk. The car was not even his and he kept changing the story as to whose car it was and how he got it. I think this is his friend’s car.

“Who would let somebody who does not have a license and who is drunk drive a car?” she asked in exasperation.

According to Christine de Villiers, portfolio manager at Edrudour Complex, “We have closed the room temporarily and they have begun fixing things that were damaged in the crash. We have not fixed the gate yet but we got a full-time guard there instead. Hopefully we can sort everything out this week.”
