Elderly woman killed, children injured as bakkie rolls

‘Four children between the ages of six and 14 sustained minor injuries’.

An elderly woman died and eight other people were injured among them children when the bakkie they were travelling in rolled on the R501 about 20km from Potchefstroom over the weekend.

According to ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing, “It is understood the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled and landed in the veld. When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found people scattered across the area.

“An elderly woman was assessed. She sustained multiple injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for her. She was declared dead.

“Other patients were assessed. Four children between the ages of six and 14 sustained minor injuries. All other patients sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated. They were transported to local hospitals.

“Authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
