Six killed, 10 injured in horror head-on collision

Paramedics discover the bodies of six people, including a young child at the scene.

A head-on collision between a taxi and bakkie on the N14 near Carletonville has left six dead and ten others injured on Monday.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring “Paramedics along with other services arrived on scene and found both wrecked vehicles lying in the middle of the road. The bakkie appeared to be ripped in half from the collision.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered the bodies of six people, including a young child, lying around the scene. Unfortunately all six patients had already succumbed to their fatal injuries.

“Ten other patients were found scattered around on scene, their injuries ranging from minor to critical. Paramedics set out treating the patients while metro services closed off the road for safety reasons.

“Three critically injured patients required advanced life support treatment and were later airlifted by two AER24 helicopters and a third medical helicopter to Tshepong Hospital for further treatment.

“The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

“The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
