Burglar jailed for 21 years

Warrant officer commended for his perseverance and determination in successfully concluding case.

A man was sentenced to 21 years behind bars after being found guilty of housebreak-in and theft.

This after police re-opened old cases of housebreak-in between 2009 and 2013 which resulted in the conviction.

Warrant Officer Alpheus Munzhelele was responsible for the investigation of the housebreak-in dockets reported during this time. Munzhelele made use of fingerprint records as well as other databases that lead to the suspect.

A. Mandito Ngulele was the suspect that records and databases pointed to. Ngulele was traced, arrested and brought to court to face seven charges of housebreak-in and theft against him. Ngulele was convicted on charges and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment. Ngulele will effectively serve 10 of those 21 years with no possibility of parole.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein police, “This success is a clear indication that cases reported as far back as 2009 can be positively concluded with the assistance of improved investigation methods and linkages with the help of fingerprints.”

Ernst continued “Warrant officer Munzhelele is commended for his perseverance and determination in successfully concluding theses cases.”
