Flooding in Ten Acres

Ten Acres residents are at their wits end regarding the roads.

Residents believe the recent floods experienced on 5th and 2nd Streets are an eye-opener to the municipality and a disaster waiting to happen.

Most of the roads in the area are not tarred and residents are forced to deal with the bad dirt roads, rocks and potholes. The summer rain makes it difficult to travel on these roads as some parts of Ten Acres are completely flooded.

This applies specifically to 5th Street, which is a tar road that becomes a dirt road towards the turn into 2nd Street.

The water backs up at this intersection and cannot run into the veld as a result of the overgrown vegetation. Residents are forced to take alternative routes to get to and from Ten Acres.

The backed-up water runs into 2nd Street, which has a slight drop where the tar road ends and the dirt road starts. This causes the dirt road to become completely submerged.

Those who manage to drive through these flooded parts have to navigate the potholes and rocks that are not visible when the road is flooded.

Ten Acres residents have appealed to the Randfontein Local Municipality to cut down the overgrown vegetation so the water can drain properly. Residents urge the municipality to tar the other roads in Ten Acres as it is extremely dangerous to drive on the dirt roads.
