Fatality at Harmony’s Kusasalethu mine

Underground mine workers dies; investigation under way.

The Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (Harmony) group is doing an in-depth investigation into the cause of the death of one of their underground workers on Tuesday.

Harmony released a statement saying, “An employee was fatally injured in a fall of ground accident in a development area at its Kusasalethu gold mine near Carletonville.”

Henrika Ninham, Harmony’s Investor Relations Manager said, “The company and all the employees are very saddened by the loss of one of their employees. They will do everything in their power to try and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Safety always has been a priority at all their sites and it boasts a flawless safety record over the December period.

Investigations into the accident are under way and management has halted all development operations at the mine.

Graham Biggs, Harmony’s Chief Executive Officer and his management team express their sincere condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased.
