Shop owner survives being stabbed several times

Suspects still at large — police.

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects responsible for the brutal attack on a shop owner during a business robbery in Mohlakeng.

According to Randfontein police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, “The incident occurred on New Year’s day.

“The shopkeeper was busy at his spaza shop at around 5:30pm in Extension 11 when three men overpowered him. The men stormed inside and closed the shop’s doors behind them. They then proceeded to attack the shopkeeper.

“One of the suspects took out a firearm and shot the shopkeeper in his buttock. The men also stabbed the shopkeeper several times in the head and upper body. In total the man had over 7 stab wounds when he was taken to the Leratong Hospital after the attack.

“The suspects took several items from the shop and then fled the scene on foot.

“The men are still at large and Warrant Officer Karin Nel have asked that anyone with any information regarding the incident to contact her on 011 278 8100.”

According to police the shopkeeper have recovered well from his injuries and has recently returned to his business still traumatized from the attack.
