A twelve year old girl was found in a critical condition, partially trapped under a bakkie when it overturned late on Thursday.
According to ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak, “It is understood that the vehicle was traveling on the R28 near Westonaria when it overturned several times, ejecting the twelve year old from the vehicle.
“Paramedics from ER24 that arrived on the scene found the girl trapped under the overturned vehicle from her waist down. She was in a serious condition and presented with multiple injuries.
“Paramedics also found a man, believed to be the grandfather, 51, as well as another girl, still in the vehicle. They were rescued from the vehicle while the local fire department used specialised equipment to stabilise the vehicle and lift it from the twelve year old.
“A medical helicopter was called to the scene to assist with the trapped girl. Once freed, she was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further medical treatment.
“The grandfather and the other girl were treated and stabilised on the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Both were in a stable condition.
“Although the exact cause of the incident is not yet known, the grandfather explained that he swerved for a stationary vehicle in the road when he lost control.
“Local authorities attended the incident.”
