Horror accident near Bloemfontein claims life

‘Man had been trapped for several hours inside of the vehicle’ — ER24.

A man has been killed after his truck collided into a building, apparently being used for storage on a farm on the N1 approximately 20km outside of Bloemfontein.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, “When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found a large truck stationed just a few metres away from the large brick building that lay in ruins.

“On assessment paramedics discovered the driver of the vehicle still trapped with severe injuries to his head and chest. The man had apparently been trapped for several hours inside of the vehicle.

“Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the driver in an hour rescue operation. Once the man was freed, he was transported by advanced life support paramedics to Pelonomi Hospital for further treatment.

“Unfortunately the man was later declared dead in hospital. The owners of the farm allegedly heard a loud noise late Sunday evening but were unsure of what it was. It is understood that the farmer only discovered the truck and patient early Monday morning.

“Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
