West Rand plane crash claims two lives — Paramedics

'Services are currently hiking to make their way to the aircraft.'

Paramedics confirmed that two people died after a light aircraft had crashed in a mountain area in Krugersdorp on the West Rand on Monday afternoon.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann, “A light aircraft has crashed in a mountain area in Delporton, Krugersdorp.

“All services are currently trying to find a way to the crashed aircraft as there are no roads around the area. Services are currently hiking to make their way to the aircraft.

“The two occupants of the light aircraft have lost their lives during the crash. Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a Civil Aviation Authority investigation.”

According to ER24s Russel Meiring “Paramedics could see the wreckage in the mountainous area but was unable to reach it by road.

“A helicopter flying over the area picked up the ER24 paramedics and dropped them at the crash site.

“On scene, paramedics discovered the lifeless bodies of the two occupants of the aircraft. Unfortunately they had already succumbed to their injuries. The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
