Community marches outside court for murdered Titus
"I am here to support the family, so are the rest of the family" — member of the Mohlakeng community.
Lucky Titus’ alleged kidnappers appeared in court on 25 November for a bail application and were met by residents from Mohlakeng sitting, leaning and peaking in to the courtroom.
Titus was found dead last month on the train tracks of a Carletonville railway line. This was after Titus was kidnapped.
According to Cynthia Titus, Lucky Titus’ mother, “My son was tortured after he was kidnapped.”
She stated that the other men that were kidnapped told her that they saw him and that he was tortured with them. The community of Mohlakeng have been involved in the exposing of this crime from the very beginning as they destroyed one of who they believed to be the man behind the kidnapping of Titus and the other men.
When the community members found out that Titus was the man found on the train tracks, they burned both the suspected kidnapper’s home and bakkie.
At the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court, residents of Mohlakeng were seen wearing blue T-shirts with Titus’ picture and nickname on. Some of them angry at the kidnappers and some still in mourning.Moss Modimpula a member of the Mohlakeng community says, “I am just here for Lucky’s mother. I am here to support the family and so are the other people.”
