Life Robinson to offer free antenatal classes

"Six week programme offers info on all aspects of pregnancy."

Life Robinson Private Hospital announced on Thursday they will offer a free six week antenatal programme to soon to be mothers and fathers in the community.

Davida McBeth, registered nurse and manager of the maternity unit will host the classes every Thursday at 6pm in the Life Robinson Private Hospital boardroom to educate and support parents in the community during this very special time in their lives.

The first session commences on Thursday 21 August.

According to Melanie van Staden from Life Robinson Hospital, “These classes not only educate them about pregnancy but also about parenthood.

“Pregnancy should be a very special and happy time in a couple’s lives; it can however be a little daunting, especially the thought of the labour and delivery process.

“It is also a time when a women’s body undergoes a number of changes that she may not understand.  Not being aware of the possible risks during pregnancy can also place unnecessary stress on both mother and baby.

“Because every woman’s experiencing during pregnancy is different the well-intended insights of others may lead to confusion. The best way to prepare and equip yourself for motherhood is to attend antenatal classes.

“These classes help parents to prepare for the practicalities and the highs and lows of pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenthood. You also have access to trained professionals to ask questions that you may have or to share your concerns.

“The six week antenatal programme offers a wealth of information on all aspects of pregnancy such as nutrition, exercise, normal and caesarean deliveries, breastfeeding, formula feeding and parenting skills, specifically focusing on the first year after birth.”
